Our responsibility towards nature and the environment.
Every form of consumption has an impact on the environment. This is no less true of Burmeier through its corporate activities. Burmeier is committed to doing everything feasible to minimise its environmental impact and has declared this to be one of its corporate objectives.
The damaging effects of climate change call for a rethink not only in the private sector but also in industry. We would like to set a good example and have therefore drawn up a comprehensive catalogue of measures designed to reduce harmful environmental effects sustainably.
Our catalogue of measures to protect nature and the environment:
- Burmeier electricity supply has been changed to the provider “Lichtblick”, which supplies electricity to us from ecological/regenerative production.
- Out of office services have been supplied with BMW low-consumption diesel vehicles with efficient dynamics technology with a combined average use of
- All company vehicles have diesel particle filters. High-performance cars are no longer used.
- The development of the 24 volt actuator design including Switch Mode Technology from Burmeier leads to an average electricity saving of 15 Euro/p.a. per care bed compared to traditional transformer technology. This reduces the burden on the environment.
- At Burmeier headquarters all light sources have been replaced by fluorescent lamps.
- Exclusive use of energy-efficient end equipment.
- We have installed photovoltaic systems in our works in Herford and Nordhausen. We therefore produce approximately 50% of the electricity required in our offices in Herford ourselves, which is both environmentally and atmospherically friendly.
- Air journeys are minimised with the increased use of telephone/video conference systems
- Hospitality at trade fairs can be predominantly changed to ecologically produced bio-foods.
- Increased use of wood waste (shavings and pieces of solid wood) in Burmeier central heating. Cooperation with local wood-processing companies.
- Expert separation of recyclable materials when old beds are withdrawn. Connection to waste disposal systems for expert separation and return of raw materials.
- Whenever possible, all used paper is converted into 100% recycled paper. In cases where recycled paper cannot be used, FCS certified paper (Forest Stewardship Council) is used out of preference.
- Smoking is no longer allowed in business premises, including field services. All staff look after their health and operate active environmental protection.
